HAPPY ST. PATRICK’S DAY...AND WANNA WAKE YOUR SOUL?

We started off the show with a little visit from St. Patrick himself, then spoke to the Girl Scouts /Heart of the South about THEIR version of “Green.” Then on we moved to our main feature segments about Sacred Harp music, a unique but relatively obscure (until now) form of singing. Featured on today’s show are:

ST. PATRICK HIMSELF — From Dublin Ireland, that revered icon of St. Patrick’s Day joined us live. He even blessed the people of Tupelo (in his own way, don’tcha know).

NATALIE WILSON, Girl Scouts/Heart of the South — The Girl Scouts, in tribute to their 100 years of scouting and because they long ago began thinking green, are holding their first ever “Green Festival” this weekend. Natalie joined us live in studio.

PAT RASBERRY, Tupelo Film Commission — Returning to trumpet this month’s IndieFilm project, Pat hosted Matt Hinton, producer of “Awake My Soul: The Story of the Sacred Harp.”

MATT HINTON, producer — Matt joined us live via mobile phone from the road, driving in from Atlanta to host tonight’s screening of his film “Awake my Soul.” (after the fact: More than 125 people attended that screening).

CARROLL LUNSFORD, Sacred Harp Singer — In a bit of serendipity, producer Brenda Mitchell’s father Carroll just happens to be a long-time veteran of the Sacred Harp style of singing. He joined us live via phone from his home in the San Diego suburb of Santee, California.

THOM EASON, Japan-America Society of Mississippi (JASMIS) — Thom and his wife Mieko Kikuchi are part of a Mississippi society helping to deepen a bond between the Magnolia State and a country that, as of the airing of this program, is in deep turmoil because of the 9.0 earthquake, resulting tsunami, and nuclear events. We spoke to him about a relief fund they are helping to coordinate. They’ll join us live in studio next week to explore a bit more.

BRIAN MITCHELL, birthday boy — Producer Brenda Mitchell’s son Brian turned 12 the day before this show aired. We invited him into the studio live for a little birthday fun to close to close the show.
